Sew bottom seem with only a couple stitches on each side. Be sure to leave about an inch open for the tail. With the purple thread, sew a scant inch downward on each side on the bottom part only. Attach strings to the outer edges of the top of the underside (i.e. to the top of each “flap” on the separated part). This will serve as a lace around the neck. You can also chain crochet these strings if desired. Sew two snaps onto the underside to serve as a close for the separated part of the underside. Once you have the swimsuit on the animal, pull the strings through the yarn overs on the top part and tie a bow at the back of the neck.

            Finishing:

Sew the bottom part together, using only three stitches on each side so you still have a ¾ to 1 inch hole for the tail. Sew the side seams approximately two inches long on each side. Sew on the legs, being careful that peaked part is matched up with the tail seam. You may want to pin it first to see how it will work. If desired, thread a drawstring around the waistband so the pants will fit better. Nothing like losing one’s drawers in a crowded pool!
