Reggie Lion Sweater

“Reggie” is my alma mater’s mascot, seen here in his dashing letter sweater.

I showed this picture to someone else who asked me to make one for her as well. Figured I might as well write down the pattern this time. Here goes:

Reggie Sweater (for a large “Bear Factory” stuffed lion)

Front: (worked on size 8 needles)

                Cast on 32 stitches

                Work 2 rows knit 1 purl 1 ribbing

                Knit 1 row

                Break off yarn and purl the next row in a contrasting color

                Reattach yarn and work in stockinette stitch for 8 rows

                Row 9: Knit 1, knit 2 together twice, knit to last 5 stitches, knit 2 together twice, knit 1

                Row 10: Purl 1, purl 2 together, purl to last 3 stitches, purl 2 together, purl  1

                Row 11: Knit 1, knit 2 together twice, knit to last 5 stitches, knit 2 together twice, knit 1

                Row 12: Purl 1, purl 2 together twice, purl to last 5 stitches, purl 2 together twice, purl 1

                Row 13: Knit 1, knit 2 together twice, knit to last 5 stitches, knit 2 together twice, knit 1

                Row 14: Purl 1, purl 2 together, purl to last 3 stitches, purl 2 together, purl  1

                With the 12 Remaining stitches, work 6 rows stockinette stitch

Back:

                Right side:

                                Cast on 28 stitches

                                Work 2 rows knit 1, purl 1 ribbing

                                Knit 1 row, break off yarn

                                Purl the next row in a contrasting color

                                Reattach yarn and purl the next 16 rows in stockinette stitch

                                Row 17: Knit to last 3 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 1

                                Row 18: purl

                                Row 19: Knit to last 3 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 1

                                Row 20: purl

                                Row 21: Knit 6, cast off 20

                                Break off yarn

                                Row 22: Reattach yarn and purl

                                Row 23: Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 3

                                Row 24: Purl

                                Row 25: knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 2

                                Row 26: purl

                                Row 27: knit

                                Row 28 -32 work in stockinette stitch

                                Row 33: knit 1, knit 2 together

                                Row 34: purl

                                Row 35: cast off

                Left side:

                                Cast on 28 stitches

                              Work 2 rows knit 1, purl 1 ribbing

                                Knit 1 row, break off yarn

                                Purl the next row in a contrasting color

                                Reattach yarn and work 18 rows stockinette stitch

                                Row 19: Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit rest of row

                                Row 20: purl

                                Row 21: cast off 21 stitches, knit 6

                                Row 22: Purl

                                Row 23: knit 3, knit 2 together, knit 1

                                Row 24: Purl

                                Row 25: Knit 2, knit 2 together, knit 1

                                Row 26: purl

                                Row 27: knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 1

                                Row 28 – 32: stockinette stitch

                                Row 33: knit 1, knit 2 together

                                Row 34: Purl

                                Row 35: Cast off

Sleeves – Make 2

                Cast on 38 -40 stitches loosely

                Work 2 rows knit 1, purl 1 ribbing

                Knit 1 row, break off yarn

                Purl the next row in a contrasting color

                Reattach yarn and work 17 rows stockinette stitch

                Cast off

Finishing

                Sew the back side “straps” to the top of the front yoke.

 Sew the side seams approximately 2 ½ inches up from the bottom. Pin the sleeves in place and turn the sweater right side out to make sure they are not on backwards.

Turn the sweater back inside out and sew on the sleeves. Single-crochet around the neckline. (Not optional in this pattern!)

Sew on 4 size 1/0 snaps in the back for closure. If desired, sew a felt letter, emblem, or other decoration to the front of the sweater.
