Toby Shows off His Improved Vest at the Office

In my haste to get two patterns finished a few weeks ago, I didn’t have time to look this one over very thoroughly. This time, I’ve redone it with a few more decreases on the left and right sides so it fits better in front. Toby looks sharp in this office chair, eh?

Dress-up Vest

            Back:

                        Cast on 25 stitches

                        Work 2 rows knit 1 purl 1 ribbing

                        Work 10 rows stockinette stitch

                        Row 11: Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 19, knit 2 together, knit 1

                        Row 12: Purl

                        Row 13: Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 17, knit 2 together, knit 1

                        Row 14: Purl 4, bind off 13, purl 4

                        Slip last (left) 4 stitches on a holder

                        Work 7 rows stockinette stitch with first (right) 4 stitches, starting with a knit row

                        If desired, slip the first stitch of every row for a more polished look

                        Bind off

Re-attach yarn to left side and work 7 rows stockinette stitch, starting with a knit row.

Bind off

            Right side:

                        Cast on 9 stitches

                        Mark this side with a pin

                        Work 2 rows knit 1, purl1 ribbing

                        Work 8 rows stockinette stitch

                        Row 9: Knit 6, knit 2 together, knit 1

                        Row 10: purl

                        Row 11: Knit 5, knit 2 together, knit 1

                        Row 12: purl

                        Row 13: knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 1

                        Row 14: purl

                        Row 15: knit 2, knit 2 together, knit 1

With remaining 4 stitches, work 6 rows stockinette stitch, slipping the first stitch of every row to make a neat edge.

                        Bind off

            Left side:

                        Cast on 9 stitches

                        Work 2 rows knit 1, purl 1 ribbing

                        Work 8 rows stockinette stitch

                        Row 9: Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 6

                        Row 10: purl

                        Row 11: Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 5

                        Row 12: purl

                        Row 13: Knit, 1, knit 2 together, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 1

                        Row 14: Purl

                        Row 15: knit 1, knit 2 together, knit

Work in stockinette stitch for 5 rows, slipping the first stitch of every row to make a neat edge.

                        Bind off

Finishing: Weave in ends. Sew side seams approximately 1 and ¾ inches up from the       bottom. Sew shoulder seams together. Sew on 3-4 snaps for closure.
