Christmas Party Dress

Elegant Party Dress

(Worked on size 8 needles with worsted weight yarn – Creslan Christmas Ombre here)

            Skirt:

Go to the library and check out Vogue Knitting (the 1989 edition). Turn to page 144 under “Tulip Lace”. (I tried to scan this, but the book is just too big!) Cast on 64 stitches and follow the pattern given, rows 1-16, one time. (The skirt should measure almost 3 inches). Break off yarn, leaving a long tail. Draw the yarn through the live stitches to get them off the needle. This is the top half of the skirt, the part that connects to the bodice. If the skirt curls, crochet around the bottom edge to keep it down.

            Back:

                        Cast on 20 stitches

                        Work 6 rows stockinette stitch

Row 7: Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit until last 3 stitches, knit 2 together, knit 1

Row 8: Purl 1, Purl 2 together, purl until last 3 stitches, purl 2 together, purl1

                        Rows 9 and 10: Repeat rows 7 and 8

                        Row 11: Bind off

            Right Side:

                        Cast on 8 stitches

                        Work 8 rows stockinette stitch

                        Row 9: Knit 1, knit 3 together, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 1

                        Row 10: Purl

                        Row 11: Cast off

            Left side:

                        Cast on 8 stitches

                        Work 8 rows stockinette stitch

                        Row 9: Knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 1, knit 3 together, knit 1

                        Row 10: Purl

                        Row 11: Cast off

Finishing: Sew side seams up almost 1 inch from the bottom. Gather and sew on skirt. Sew on 3 and ½ inch lace straps and 3-4 snaps.
